![]() ![]() This is one of my all-time absolute favorite mystery novels. The end, when it comes, is not only sort of obvious as the result of the process of elimination, but a relief. Therefore the reader has an ample, indeed more than ample, for this is very wordy, chance to evaluate the nature of evidence and the different qualities of logic, to experience to the full both deductive and inductive reasoning. ![]() Each night the members are all convinced of the presenter's decision as to the perpetrator except the member who is to present on the following evening, who is convinced of the perfection of his or her case. ![]() Each member has a convincing case, has investigated alibis and tracked down clues. By the rules of their club, they have a week in which to work out who they believe is the murderer, and in six successive nights of the following week each will present his or her case. Six members of a Crimes Club are given as many details of a murder as the police know. This is not a typical mystery novel it is an intellectual exercise. ![]()
